Rain, thunderstorms expected across Pakistan from today

The Met Office has advised provincial and district administrations to remain alert and take precautionary measures to deal with any possible weather-related incidents. According to the PMD, monsoon currents are currently affecting the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave is expected to enter the region from August 31 and remain influential until September 5. Rain forecast for Punjab Rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls, are expected in Islamabad and several parts of upper Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad and Hafizabad from August 29 to September 5. Parts of southern and central Punjab, including Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal and Pakpattan, are expected to receive rain from September 1 to 5. Weather conditions in KP, Kashmir and GB Thunderstorms and rain are also likely across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 29 to September 5, including Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Mardan, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohat and several tribal districts. In Azad Kashmir, rain and thunderstorms are expected from August 29 to September 6, particularly in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Mirpur and adjoining areas. Several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza and Gilgit, may receive rain from August 30 to September 6. Meanwhile, mainly hot and humid weather is expected to prevail across most parts of Sindh and Balochistan. Urban flooding, landslides feared The PMD warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore between August 31 and September 5. Flash flooding may also occur in local streams and nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Landslides are possible in mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir. The Met Office advised tourists and travellers to exercise caution and urged farmers to plan agricultural activities according to the prevailing weather conditions.
