A notification has been issued regarding the administrative changes at PIMS, confirming the suspension of Dr Rana Imran Sikandar for a period of four months. According to the notification, Dr Muhammad Salman will take charge as PIMS Executive Director for three years while continuing to serve as Executive Director of the NIH. The government has also appointed Dr Altaf Hussain as Joint Executive Director of PIMS for three months. Separate administrative notifications have reportedly been issued concerning other departments and officials at the hospital. The latest appointments follow Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to approve the immediate suspension of eight individuals in connection with the PIMS tragedy. Among those facing action were PIMS Executive Director Prof Dr Rana Imran Sikandar, Joint Executive Directors Dr Mutahir Shah and Dr Owais Ali Shah, as well as officials associated with hospital security and emergency services. Other officials named in the action included Dr Naushila Amjad, Assistant Director Security Muhammad Usman, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Emergency Services Director General Abdul Rehman, Head of the Neonatal Department Dr Sadia Riaz and a senior registrar. The government’s decision comes as authorities review administrative, security and emergency-response arrangements at PIMS following the incident. The appointment of Dr Muhammad Salman is expected to bring new administrative oversight to the hospital, while his continued role at NIH means he will simultaneously hold leadership responsibilities at both institutions during his three-year tenure at PIMS.
